Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Professor Dr Hasan Babu underscored the need for collaboration among all stakeholders to figure out the problems the country’s stock market was now facing and to resolve them.
The newly-elected DSE chairman expressed this view during a meeting with a delegation of the CEO Forum, led by its President Md Chayedur Rahman on Thursday.
The DSE chairman stressed that the country’s capital market should be aligned with the country’s economic prosperity and to this end everyone’s cooperation was needed to develop the market.
The CEO Forum, during the meeting, pledged their unconditional support to move the capital market into a better position and expressed their willingness to work together with the brokerage firms and the DSE to resolve all problems.
The DSE chairman also acknowledged the changing context and dynamics of investment, trade, and economic transactions resulting from globalisation and the development of information technology.
Md Chayedur Rahman attended the meeting with a delegation of 13 forum members. At the meeting, he highlighted several problems the market was now facing, including exposure limits, multiple taxes, floor prices, and the absence of good companies in the market.
He expressed his hope that all regulators, including the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Bangladesh Bank, and the National Board of Revenue (NBR), would work together to solve these problems through concerted efforts.
