Three banks declare dividends for 2022

Three Bangladeshi listed banks recently declared their dividends for the year ending on December 31, 2022.

Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) announced a cash dividend of 12.50 per cent and a stock dividend of 12.50 per cent, while Prime Bank Limited declared a cash dividend of 17.50 per cent, and Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd announced a cash dividend of 12 per cent and a stock dividend of 3 per cent for the year.

The EBL recommended the stock dividend to strengthen its capital base and support projected business growth, while improving regulatory ratios, as per a Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) disclosure.

Meanwhile, Shahjalal Islami Bank declared a stock dividend that will use retained earnings to strengthen its capital base and increase business capacity. The dividend was declared out of accumulated profits and not from any unrealised gains or prior profits, another DSE disclosure said.

Prime Bank Limited reported an increase of 23.08 per cent in its consolidated earnings per share (EPS), which was Tk 3.53 for the year under review compared to Tk 2.87 for the previous year.

The bank’s net asset value (NAV) per share stood at Tk 28.41 as on December 31, 2022.

On the other hand, EBL’s consolidated EPS increased by 6.71 per cent to Tk 4.77 for the year 2022, while NAV per share rose by 12.98 per cent to Tk 33.33 for the same year.

But its consolidated NOCFPS decreased by 103.11 per cent to negative Tk 0.39 for 2022.

Meanwhile, Shahjalal Islami Bank Ltd reported a significant increase in its consolidated EPS, which was Tk 3.31 for the year ended December 31, 2022, up 37.92 per cent than Tk 2.40 for the previous year.

The consolidated NAV per share also increased by 10.92 per cent to Tk 20.32, and the consolidated NOCFPS increased by 273.20 per cent to Tk 3.62 for the last year.

On Thursday’s DSE trading floor, Eastern Bank shares closed at Tk 31.80 per sahed, while Prime Bank shares at Tk 20.30 per share and Shahjalal Islami Bank shares at Tk 18.90 per share.
