Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said the government is sincerely working on ensuring corporate discipline and good governance in the country’s corporate regime.
Following necessary governmental supports, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) was formed to under the Chartered Secretaries Act 2010 in bid to create skilled professionals in the corporate sector, he stated.
Companies should give profound importance to the role of their company secretary as an internal gatekeeper to improve corporate governance, the BSEC chief made these remarks while gracing a seminar styled ‘Organizational Sustainability: Role of Chartered/Company Secretary’ hosted by the ICSB in the capital on Sunday evening.
To speak as the chief guest at the programme, Professor Shibli Rubayat noted that the role of the chartered or company secretary is inevitable for making a company sustainable.
M Anis Ud Dowla, president of the Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC) attended the occasion as the special guest.
With M Nurul Alam, senior vice president of ICSB and in the chair, Hossain Sadat, senior director, corporate affairs at Grameenphone Limited presented a keynote paper at the event, while Mohammad Asad Ullah, president of ICSB gave the welcome speech,
Speaking at the seminar, Mohammad Asad Ullah said through the seminar, professionals of corporate firms would get an overview and importance of the role of chartered secretaries for the organisational sustainability.
Chartered or company secretary ensures the best-fit executives and key employees in a company by understanding the emerging trends in corporate sustainability and governance.
Keynote Speaker Hossain Sadat elaborately discussed the role of chartered or company secretary for organisational sustainability, saying during this VUCA environment, organisational sustainability is a growing concern.
The chartered or company secretary plays a pivotal role in facilitating responsible business conduct towards ensuring long-term organisational sustainability, he added.
M Anis Ud Dowla thanked ICSB for arranging such an important seminar and remarked that the chartered secretaries are the most key persons in the corporate sectors.
He also stated that due to the vital role of the chartered secretaries, companies were now becoming technically and financially sound.

A chartered secretary updates all necessary issues and prepares prior meeting documents and share them with directors to help implement any agenda during a board meeting.
