DSE, CSE stocks flat as large-cap issues tumble

Stock markets on Tuesday finished the session flat as the major indices of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) showed slightly down amid lower activities of large-cap securities.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse, closed the day 1.82 point down at 5,483.14. The Shariah-based index, DSES, also followed the same trend with 1.56 point down at 1,201.86.

But, the blue-chip index, DS30, closed the day with 17.08 points up at 1,961.37, reports BSS.

Out of 397 issues traded, 221 closed lower, 121 advanced and 55 issues remained unchanged on the DSE floor.

The major gaining issues were NRBBANK, TECHNODRUG, RANFOUNDRY, KOHINOOR and LIBRAINFU. The major losing companies were PRIMETEX, RUPALILIFE, SEMLIBBLSF, ITC and HEIDELBCEM.

The capital bourse of the country registered back-to-back flat sessions as cautious investors remained observant of the market’s trend due to the weakened market strength ahead of the announcement of the upcoming monetary policy statement, EBL Securities said in its daily market review.

It said the market witnessed a mild volatile swing as investors were active on both sides of the trading fence, while sellers ended up on a slightly dominant side by the end of the session.

Meanwhile, market turnover also decreased by 14.8 per cent to Tk 564 crore from the previous session’s Tk 662 crore.

Meanwhile, CSE closed the day with downward trend with its major CASPI 15 points down at 15,617.04.

At CSE, 238 issues were traded. Of those, 59 closed higher and 149 closed lower when 6.079 million shares worth Tk 28.47 crore changed hands.
