DSE, EU discuss potential collaboration

A two-member delegation of the European Union (EU) currently stationed in Bangladesh met with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Professor Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu, at the DSE tower in Nikunja, Dhaka on Wednesday to discuss potential areas for collaboration.

The delegation included Senior Economist at European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships Marga Peeters and Head of Sector at the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh Enrico Lorenzon.

DSE Director Md Shaheedul Islam, Managing Director (acting) Sattique Ahmed Shah, Chief Financial Officer Khairul Bashar Abu Taher Mohammed, and other senior DSE officials were also present at the meeting, according to a press release.

During the meeting, Babu stated that the Bangladeshi capital market is an emerging one. Under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership, he expressed the government's vision to further integrate the capital market with the development efforts aligned with the concept of Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041.

He emphasised the role of the country's capital market in mobilising long-term financing and its contribution to Bangladesh's GDP growth.

Babu also discussed potential areas of collaboration with the EU delegation to enhance the development of the Bangladeshi capital market in line with the prime minister's vision. These areas include product and technology development and attracting foreign investors.

The EU representatives assured the DSE of their full cooperation in supporting the development of the Bangladeshi capital market, adds the release.

Later, Prof Babu presented the EU delegation with copies of his book "World Leader Sheikh Hasina: The Pioneer of Golden Bangladesh" as a token of appreciation for their visit. The book provides a data-driven analysis and a visual roadmap aligned with the government's potential development plans for building and achieving "Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041".
