Out of 23 candidates, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s prime bourse, has selected three candidates for the post of its managing director.
The DSE’s board of directors approved this short list on Monday, and will recommend the securities regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) to appoint its managing director from these short-listed candidates.
The BSEC will finally appoint the bourse’s managing director.
The top executive position at the DSE fell vacant in September last year following the resignation of the former managing director Tarique Amin Bhuiyan.
The three primarily selected candidates for the post of DSE managing director are BSEC’s Executive Director ATM Tariquzzaman, former Mercantile Bank managing director Kazi Mashiur Rahman, and National Finance’s Managing Director Saifuddin M Naser.
Earlier, the bourse’s nomination and remuneration committee (NRC) shortlisted six candidates from 23 for the position of managing director, and issued a letter to them for an interview held on July 27.
Later, the three persons were selected from these six candidates for the bourse’s top executive post.
On July 25 last year, Tarique Amin Bhuiyan joined the DSE as its managing director. The DSE board in its 1,008th meeting on July 4, 2021, had decided to appoint him as the managing director.
Previously, former DSE managing director Kazi Sanaul Huque had resigned on October 8, 2020, from the post citing personal reasons. On February 8, 2020, he had been appointed for three years.
But he had worked in the post for only six months.
