Dhaka stocks closed higher on Sunday, with its key index crossing 6,300-mark as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues owing to the growing optimism regarding the market outlook.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 12.11 points or 0.19 per cent to settle at 6,311 against 6,299 in the previous session.
Among other indices, he DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 5.17 points to finish at 2,146 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 1.41 points to close at 1,374.
Turnover, another crucial indicator of the market, increased by 33 per cent to Tk 611 crore against the tally of Tk 456 crore in the previous session.
The yesterday’s DSE turnover was the highest since August 3, as per the DSE data.
Fu-wang Food was the most-traded stock with Tk 56 crore worth of its shares changing hands, followed by Eastern Housing Limited, and Crystal Insurance Company Limited.
The market witnessed buy pressure as opportunistic investors continued to show their buying interest in sector-specific issues with quick gain potential, stockbrokers said.
As per the daily market review of Brac EPL Stock Brokerage, most large-cap sectors posted positive performance, with the pharmaceutical booking the highest gain of 0.09 per cent, followed by fuel and power (0.06 per cent), engineering (0.02 per cent), NBFI (0.01 per cent), food and allied (0.00 per cent), and telecommunication (0.00 per cent).
Eastern Insurance Company Ltd rose 9.8 per cent to become the day’s top gainer, while Daffodil Computers Ltd fell 6.5 per cent becoming the worst sufferer.
Of the 332 issues traded, 122 advanced, 35 declined and 175 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with its two major indices – the All-Share Price Index - CASPI- rising 30.29 points to settle at 18,663 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX- gaining 19.20 points to close at 11,158.65.
Of the issues traded, 21 declined, 73 advanced and 76 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
