DSEX tops 6,800-mark

The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange continued its rising trend and posted a fresh all-time high record on Sunday.

On the day, the DSEX gained 81.61 points or 1.2 per cent to reach 6,842 points, the highest since its inception in 2013.

The amount of transaction also witnessed a steep hike as shares and units worth Tk 2,706 crore were traded at the country’s prime bourse, which was Tk 487 crore higher than Tk 2,218 crore of the previous session.

The market analysts said that the moderate price correction in the past two sessions made investors buoyant.

The investors’ strong buying support continued for selective issues and the market stood firm at the historically highest level.

EBL Securities, in its daily market commentary, said that the Dhaka bourse sparked a rally on Sunday as investors turned their focus to bank stocks.

The DSEX stood at the new high since its inception and the market capitalisation of the Dhaka bourse also stood at the historically highest level of Tk 554,439 crore.

The total turnover advanced by 21.97 per cent and stood at Tk 2,706 crore, which is above the satisfactory landmark of Tk 2000 crore.

On the sectoral front, textile (16.55 per cent), bank (15.85 per cent), and fuel & power (9.46 per cent) issues were the most traded stocks on the trading board.

Most of the sectors observed shining performance, out of which cement (2.4 per cent), bank (1.9 per cent), and paper (1.9 per cent) have exerted the most returns, while ceramic (-0.6 per cent), general insurance (-0.5 per cent) and food (-0.1 per cent) observed corrections.

Out of the 376 issues traded, 247 advanced, 96 declined, and 33 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also charged up in green terrain. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) advanced by 125.2 points and 213.7 points respectively.
