The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry on Wednesday removed ATM Tariquzzaman from the commissioner post at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

He will get a three-month notice period before the removal order comes into effect, said FID.

As per the notice period, the order will be effective from December 10 this year.

In May this year, FID appointed Tariquzzaman as a BSEC commissioner. He previously served as the managing director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

Previously, Tariquzzaman served as a lecturer at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He joined the BSEC in 1997 as deputy director and later became its executive director in 2007.

He obtained an MCom (Accounting) from the University of Dhaka, an MBA (Financial Management) from South Eastern University, an MCom (Financial Planning) and an MPA (Master of Professional Accounting) from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.

Tariquzzaman received an AusAid Scholarship for his studies in Australia. He then completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, the then BSEC chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam resigned on August 10 along with two other commissioners — Prof Rumana Islam and Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed.
