Ex-judge Ali Akbar made BSEC commissioner

Former senior District and Sessions judge Md Ali Akbar has been appointed as a commissioner of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

Ali Akbar has been appointed as commissioner of the stock market regulator with a four-year term, according to a notification issued by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) on Wednesday.

His salary and other benefits will be determined by the terms outlined in the employment contract with the government, reads the notification.

BSEC's five-member commission requires a quorum of three commissioners (including the chairman) to conduct meetings.

Following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the BSEC chairman and two commissioners resigned from their posts.  Later, Khondoker Rashed Maqsood was appointed as the new chairman on August 18.
