After the next general election, huge foreign investments will come into the country as many investors have already shown interest in investing here, said Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam.
“After the national polls, the economy will boom again, and then, investors will be able to gain the highest benefits,” the BSEC chairman said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the World Investor Week 2023 at the BSEC headquarters in the capital on Monday.
The seventh annual World Investor Week is scheduled began on Monday on the premises of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and will continue until October 12.
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) launched the programme, and the BSEC, along with the capital market stakeholders, will observe to stress the importance of investors' knowledge about the capital market and their protection.
The BSEC is a member country of the association of international capital market regulators, namely IOSCO.
The international organisation member countries observe the week to raise awareness among investors and promote their investment education.
At the event, the BSEC Chairman said that the investment is now very important for Bangladesh. There are many areas of investment in our country now.
“There is an opportunity to accelerate development in all fields of agriculture, health, and technology through investment. For that, we needed country branding. We have tried to do this by doing road shows in different countries,” he said.
Although it is not the responsibility of BSEC, we have done it in the interest of the country. Many responses have already been received. After the upcoming national elections, many big investments will come into the country. Many foreign investors have already shown interest in investing here.
Former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor Nazrul Islam, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. BSEC Commissioner Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, Abdul Halim, and other stakeholders were also present at the event.
Several stakeholders will take part in the week-long program and discuss many issues to promote the country’s capital market.
Shibli also said Salman F. Rahman, private industry and investment advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has also received a proposal for several large foreign investments. The benefits of country-banding will come only after the elections.
At the event, the BSEC Chairman drew the attention of foreign negative forces and said, "My country, who are you snoring?" We do not say anything about your country. Why do you come to guide us on what to do and not to do?
He said, We are moving forward; the country is moving forward. If the country moves forward, the evil forces will notice, yet we must move on.
Shibli also said that during Invest Week, we have to believe that we have to be smarter to move our country forward. The prime minister always says to be smart. As in every business, investment risks are increased and cannot be avoided without being smart.
