The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Thursday cancelled the 15-minute pre-opening session, which will be effective from next Sunday.

The stock market regulator’s Executive Director and spokesperson, Mohammad Rezaul Karim, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The move came after the misuse of the opportunity. However, the 15-minute post-closing session will continue.

In October 2020, the BSEC approved the pre-opening session and post-closing session applications on both stock exchanges.

Currently, the pre-opening and opening sessions of DSE start at 9:45am and 10:00am respectively.

Investors can only buy or sell shares in this session, where an ideal opening price can be determined in this session.

However, the closing and post-closing sessions start at 2:30pm after the end of normal transactions.

BSEC gave its approval to introduce the different sessions in a bid to emulate the practice of other countries' bourses where investors get the scope to purchase or sell securities at the closing price even after the closure of the session.
