Unique Hotel’s shareholders approve 15% cash dividend for FY22

Shareholders of Unique Hotel and Resorts, the owner of five-star hotel The Westin Dhaka, approved the 15 per cent cash dividend declared by the company’s board for the fiscal year 2021–22.

The company’s shareholders gave the approval during its 21st annual general meeting (AGM) held virtually on Tuesday.

Earlier, the company’s board of directors declared a 15% cash dividend for its shareholders for FY22 on November 1.

The shareholders also approved the directors’ report and the auditor’s report during the AGM.

The hotel and hospitality management company posted a staggering 142 per cent increase in net profit in the year ending in June 2022.

The earnings per share (EPS) of the listed firm, according to a Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) filing, jumped to Tk 3.20 in FY22 from Tk 1.32 in FY21.

Md Sharif Hasan, company secretary of Unique Hotel and Resorts told the media that their business had declined during the pandemic, but when the pandemic effect eased their profit increased significantly.

Moreover, selling off shares of Unique Meghnaghat Power, a subsidiary of the publicly traded company, generated good earnings for the company and contributed to its net profit, he added.

Unique Hotel and Resorts owns 65.01 per ccent stake in the power plant, of which it sold 11.76 per cent worth of Tk 205 crore to Qatar-based investment company Nebras Power Investment Management BV in February last.
