National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem has suggested that individuals or companies facing any problem regarding tax payments or anything at any level should directly contact the senior officials of the tax zone offices.

“We are making efforts to implement the easiest methods for automation in tax payment. We have tried to present the new income tax more straightforwardly and easily,” he said on Wednesday.

“If anyone faces any problem with tax payment, whether it is an individual taxpayer or a corporate entity, and there is a commissioner present there [at the zonal office], please contact them directly,” he added.

In each tax zone, there is a specific day for public hearings, and anyone can directly file their complaints there too, he said.

The NBR chief made the remarks while addressing a ceremony honouring the country’s top taxpaying individuals and companies at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.

At the event, NBR honoured 141 individuals and companies with tax cards and recognition plaques for their outstanding contribution to the public exchequer in the tax year 2022-23.

In a gazette issued recently, the finance ministry announced the names of these taxpayers awarded in line with the National Tax Card Policy 2010 (amended) — including 75 individuals, 54 companies and 12 in other categories — as the tax card winners under three categories.

According to the policy, tax card holders will get invitations to various state functions and will get tickets on a priority basis for travel by road, air, and waterways.

They will be given preference even in booking hotels and restaurants and will get access to the VIP lounge at the airport. The tax card holders and their families will get hospital beds on a priority basis.
