The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has awarded British American Tobacco (BAT) Bangladesh as the highest-income taxpayer for the fiscal year 2021-22.
BATB has been honoured with this recognition under the others category (company) for nine consecutive years for its immense contribution to the national exchequer.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal handed over the award along with the crest to BATB Chairman Golam Mainuddin at an event organised by NBR at the Officers’ Club in the capital on Tuesday.
“We are humbled to receive the highest taxpayer award once again, and as always, we feel proud to have contributed to the development of the country’s economy as we sincerely believe the contribution to the national exchequer plays a crucial role in keeping the wheels of the economy running and an essential part of the country’s growth journey,” Mainuddin said in his reaction.
“Certainly, this recognition will inspire us. In the days to come, BAT Bangladesh will adhere to the laws of the land and keep working with NBR to make the income tax collection process more dynamic and effective,” he added.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and Senior Secretary of the Finance Division Fatima Yasmin attended the function chaired by Chairman of NBR and Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem. BATB Finance Director Amun Mustafiz was also present there.
