Banglalink, Teletalk sign MoU on infrastructure sharing

Banglalink and state-run mobile network operator Teletalk have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities of sharing their respective telecom infrastructures.

Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Erik Aas and Teletalk Managing Director Md Shahab Uddin signed the MoU in presence of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar at the Posts and Telecommunications Division, a press release said on Sunday.

Under the MoU, the two operators will explore and assess scopes and technical feasibility of sharing their respective telecom infrastructures and facilities with each other in compliance with the Infrastructure Sharing Guidelines, Tower Sharing Guidelines and all other relevant laws and regulations.

Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman, Banglalink Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman and Head of Government and LEA Relations Wahed Ul Huq Khandkar, among others, were present at the signing ceremony.

At the event, Mustafa Jabbar said, "Telecom operators need to come up with new collaborative approaches to ensure more enhanced service-quality for customers. This kind of initiative has the potentiality to overhaul and advance the industry in the long run. I hope it turns out to be an exemplary way for the industry to make more contributions to Digital Bangladesh."

In his speech, Erik Aas said, “Banglalink will always seek opportunities to partner with other telecom stakeholders to strengthen the industry’s infrastructure, which can lead to a better quality of services and improved cost-efficiency.

“I would like to thank Teletalk for coming forward in this regard and expect to see this joint-initiative bringing positive results in many areas,” he added.

Shahab Uddin said, "We are delighted to sign this MoU with Banglalink today. It is opening an opportunity for us to maximize the utilization of our infrastructures in a collaborative manner. We want to move forward with a view to making sure that customers benefit from this initiative in coming days."
