Grameenphone (GP) users have been experiencing network disruptions in several areas since Thursday morning. Many GP customers posted on social media that they are facing problems while sending SMS and making phone calls.

Normal services were restored after two hours of disruption, the telecom said.

Khairul Basher, head of Communications, GP, said, “We sincerely apologise for the temporary difficulty in making calls due to multiple fibre optics cables being cut. Our team is prioritizing this issue and working relentlessly to resolve the problem at the earliest.”

“Due to fibre optics cables getting cut during road maintenance work in Gazipur, Tangail, and Sirajganj, some of our customers were facing connectivity problems. However, the situation has been brought under control and all the issues are currently resolved,” he said while talking to The Business Post at 2:10pm the same day.

According to users on social media, both phone and mobile internet functions have apparently been down. Some users were even seen crowding the Grameenphone Center for customer service.

GP users have complained that some of their phones say “No Register on Network,” some phones do not show a signal, and others are failing to make calls, send text, or browse the internet.
