Three more ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have got recognition as green factories.

The factories are — CA Knitwear Ltd and Silken Sewing Ltd in Gazipur and Sultana Sweaters Ltd in Mymensingh. All of these factories received the platinum rating.

With this fresh recognition, the number of green factories in the country now stood at 176.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Director Md Mohiuddin Rubel informed the matter to BSS on Saturday.

He said the RMG manufacturers have long been doing whatever is necessary to create safe, environment-friendly and sustainable factories in the country.

"For this, we're getting recognition of green factories despite the economic recession. So, the confidence of international buyers towards Bangladesh has been growing," he added.

He said that since the number of green factories has been increasing in Bangladesh, the branding of the local RMG industry has been further strengthened in the international arena.

Bangladesh is now a leading country in the world in having green factories.
To date, 57 RMG factories in Bangladesh received the platinum rating, 105 factories received the gold rating and some 10 factories received the silver rating. Four factories received certificates but did not get any rating.

BGMEA officials said that some more factories are in the process of getting international recognition like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
