Four companies-- three overseas and a local--- signed land lease agreements, worth about $50 million, with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in Dhaka on Saturday.
The companies will manufacture garments, garment accessories, camping items, shoe accessories and packaging tools. Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) sources say they will generate 23,453 jobs.
The foreign companies--- Campex (BD) Limited from USA, Univogue Garments from Sri Lanka, Fengqun Composite Material Company Limited from China and the local TexTrim Labels (BD) Limited inked the agreement at signing program at the capital's BEPZA Complex, where Ahmed Kaykaus, principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, was present as chief guest.
The companies will be allotted 18 plots of 63,271 square metres at the BEPZA economic zone of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Chattogram’s Mirsarai.
At the signing ceremony, BEZA's Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun, Bangladesh EPZ Investors Association (BEPZIA) President SM Khan, BEPZA's Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, among others were present.
According to the agreement, Univogue Garments will invest $36.49 million to manufacture apparel products, Campex (BD) Limited will invest $10 million and produce 50 lakh pieces of camping equipment, Fengqun Composite Material Company Limited will make 35 lakh tons of shoe accessories and packaging items, while TexTrim Labels Limited with invest 1.27 million to produce 11,717 tons of garments accessories and paper coverage items.
