In the three-day public auction of Chattogram Custom House, apples were sold at Tk 44 - Tk 66 per kg, oranges were sold at Tk 66 per kg, and dates were sold at Tk 736 per kg. However, 178 tonnes of mandarin (another type of orange) was auctioned, but no one expressed interest in buying it.
According to Chittagong Customs sources, on the first day of public auction from last Monday to Wednesday, 23,462 kg (23 and a half tons) of oranges were sold for only Tk 15.65 lakh. The price stood at Tk 66 per kg.
Masum Enterprises of Chattogram Halishahar area bought the consignment from the auction as the highest bidder.
On the same day, 47,440 kg [about 47 tonnes] of red apples was sold for Tk 27.60 lakh. The price stood at Tk 58 per kg. As the highest bidder, the consignment was purchased by Hossain Trading of Falmondi in the city.
In the same auction, the company purchased another consignment of 23,720 kg (23 and a half tonnes) of apples for Tk 16.5 lakh. The price stood at Tk 67 per kg.
