The Secretary General of Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, has said that Bangladesh is now attracting Japanese investment more than before and big Japanese companies are setting up plants in the country.
He said that the country was receiving aid from Japan a few years back and it is now attracting investment from multinational Japanese companies.
The JBCCI secretary was speaking at a webinar titled "Business Opportunities" organised by Dhaka University Japanese Studies Alumni Association (DUJSAA) on Tuesday.
Mitsubishi Motors has invested a big amount in Bangladesh while Japan Tobacco has already invested 1.5 billion dollars in Bangladesh which is the largest FDI in the country till date, he said.
Mitsubishi Motors agreed to establish a full equipped car factory with Pragoti Industries Limited, Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan added.
He said a number of local companies will work together with Japanese companies once the EPZ at Araihazar becomes successful and it will also attract more Japanese investment.
