The weeklong Bangladesh Trade and Investment Summit-2021 will start on October 26, bringing together top policymakers, business leaders and investors from across the world on a virtual platform.
The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will organize the international summit jointly with the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh’s Golden Jubilee of Independence.
DCCI President Rizwan Rahman announced the event at a press conference in Dhaka on Sunday.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi was also present in the press briefing.
Addressing the event, Tipu Munshi called on foreign investors to come and visit Bangladesh saying, "We are ready to provide all facilities for more investments in Bangladesh. We have a lot of skilled manpower."
He also said, "Bangladesh is going forward... we would like to further flourish. After 2026, we might face new challenges. So, we are modernising our products."
He expressed hope that Bangladesh's per capita income would reach $2,500 by 2022.
The summit will promote Bangladesh as attractive trading and foreign direct investment (FDI) destination to global businesses and extend global integration on trade and investment into a new global reality.
The organisations also aimed to secure investment in diverse priority and emerging industries for mutual benefits.
Some nine potential sectors like Infrastructure (Physical, logistics & Energy), IT/ITES & FINTECH, Leather goods, Pharmaceuticals, Automotive & Light Engineering, Plastic products, Agro & food processing, Jute & Textiles, Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and Retail Business will take part in the summit.
