The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to explore opportunities to increase trade access for Bangladesh to the US market.

AFA President and CEO Stephen Lamar and BGMEA President Faruque Hassan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at the annual AAFA Executive Summit in Washington DC, a press release said on Saturday.

The MoU aims to refine purchasing practices, go further with the sustainable development goals in the Bangladesh RMG sector and improve the partnership between the two countries.

"Working together, our goal is to harness the potential of Bangladesh's garment industry by building capacity, adopting innovation and technology, and facilitating trade access to the US market," BGMEA president said.

Referring to the MoU, AAFA President and CEP Stephen Lamar said, "Today's joint venture will be a milestone in building a sustainable supply chain, expanding trade opportunities, and building capacity to build buyer-supplier partnerships."

BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, Directors Abdullah Hill Rakib, Director Barrister Vidya Amrit Khan, Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Foreign Mission Cell Shams Mahmud, and Mahmud Group Director Gazi Mahbubul Alam were present on the occasion.
