The Directorate General of Drug Administration in a press release on Sunday night said that it did not permit any Bangladeshi company to produce Chinese vaccine.
The release signed by drug administration director general Major General Mahbubur Rahman also requested all media to not publish any confusing news.
“Till now, no vaccine producing establishment is yet to get approval of producing Covid-19 vaccine in Bangladesh,” the release said.
Earlier on the day, many media outlets published a news quoting Mahbubur that the directorate had given a nod to Bangladeshi drug maker Incepta Pharmaceuticals to produce Sinopharm’s Covid-19 vaccine.
When Bangladesh signed agreement with Russia on vaccine in April, chairman and managing director of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Abdul Muktadir had told the Business Post, “It is possible to produce Covid-19 vaccine in line with the formula provided by the Chinese or Russian companies but first we have to know exactly how it will match it. Secondly, we have to know what are the requirements of them and we have to this end.”
