The office-bearers of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry have been elected unopposed.
No voting will be needed in the election of the FBCCI executives’ body for the 2021-23 term and the polls, slated to be held on May 5.
The election board on Monday disclosed the names of the directors who were elected unopposed as the board directors of the FBCCI for the term of 2021-23.
They were elected for the director posts without any contest in the election as four extra candidates from both associations and chamber groups withdrew their candidature on the last day on Monday.
There are 78 posts of directors in the apex trade body. Of them, 32 directors will be nominated, while 46 others are elected equally from chambers and associations, FBCCI officials said.
The Association Group will nominate the president this time while the Chamber Group will pick up the senior vice-president, insiders said.
Each group will get three vice-presidents. The two groups elect the president and the senior vice-president in turn. The FBCCI consists of 82 chambers and 385 associations of businesses.
The elected directors will choose the president, senior vice-president and six vice-presidents on May 7. The official results will be published on May 9, they said.
The Election Board for FBCCI polls was formed with Ali Ashraf as chairman on February 6. Former FBCCI director Jahangir Alamin is working as chairman of the Election Appeals Board.
The FBCCI Election Board chairman Ali Ashraf told The Business Post, “The election process will be finished as per the schedule.”
Responding to a query, he said, “There is no bar to maintain the election procedure as per the polls schedule. We will finally announce the official results of the FBCCI election on May 9.”
