The government has extended the deadline for hilsa export to India until November 5.

The Ministry of Commerce issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday.

The government earlier gave permission to 115 exporters to export 40 tonnes of hilsa each to the neighbouring country on the occasion of Durga Puja.

According to the circular, the business organisations could not finish the export activities as the government imposed a 22-day ban on fishing, transportation, hoarding, marketing, buying and selling, and exchange of hilsa from October 4 to 25.

In this context, the deadline to export the rest of the total quantity has been extended until November 5, it added.

The ban was imposed to ensure safe spawning of the national fish during its peak breeding period.
