The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries on Sunday recommended importing sugar directly through the Ministry of Industries to keep the market situation stable ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and taking steps to modernize the sugar industry.
The committee made the recommendation at its ninth meeting, held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban, with committee chairman Amir Hossain Amu in the chair.
Committee members Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, AKM Fazlul Haque, Shahiduzzaman, Kajim Uddin Ahmmed and Parvin Haque joined the meeting, said a press release.
Throughout the meeting, they discussed various issues including ensuring uninterrupted distribution of fertilizer and overall situation of the sugar industry. Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, concerned officials of the Ministry of Industries and Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, among others, joined the meeting.
