No loose soybean oil sales after Jul 31

Loose soybean oil can no longer be sold in local markets after July 31, and the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) will operate mobile courts from August 1 to enforce this ban.

DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman made the disclosure at an awareness workshop titled “Informed of Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 and Price Hike with Participation of Stakeholders,” held at the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) Auditorium on Wednesday.

Shafiquzzaman said, “Soybean oil must be sold in packaging from August 1, and loose oil cannot be sold. We will take action to stop the sale of loose oil. This campaign will be conducted across the country. The National Heart Foundation will support this campaign.”

Dhaka University’s Marketing Department Prof Mizanur Rahman was present as the chief guest in the workshop, and the event was presided over by ERF President Mohammad Refayet Ullah Mirdha.

On July 20 last year, the commerce ministry announced that after July 31, 2023, loose soybean oil cannot be sold in the domestic market. In the light of this decision, the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection will launch an operation.

In the welcome speech, DNCRP Director Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar said, “Journalists are the mirror of society. In their writings, the inconsistencies of the society come up. As a result of their cooperation, our awareness campaign activities are getting more traction.

Prof Mizanur said, “People’s luxury has increased but discrimination has also increased. In the current context, consumers are realising the advantages and disadvantages of e-commerce.

“Even with limited manpower, this DNCRP is going above and beyond to protect consumer rights, which deserves appreciation. There is an opportunity to establish consumer rights in our country, and for this we all need to work together.”
