A memorandum of understanding (MoU) and agreement has been signed between Bangladesh and Tunisia to import 1.50 lakh tonnes of Triple Superphosphate (TSP) this year.

The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) signed the agreement at Tunisian capital Tunis on Tuesday, read an official handout.

BADC Chairman Abdullah Sajjad and GCT General Manager Mohammed Ridha Shalgam signed the MoU on behalf of their respective side. Ministry of Agriculture Secretary Wahida Akter and Deputy Secretary Badiul Alam, among others, attended the signing ceremony.

BADC has been importing TSP fertiliser from Tunisia under Government to Government (G2G) agreement since 2008 as the quality of the Tunisian TSP fertiliser is comparatively better and also popular among the farmers.

The agriculture secretary also held separate meetings with Tunisian minister of agriculture, water resources and fisheries Abdelmonem Belati and its minister of industry, energy and mines Neila Gonji, on the same day.

Both the Tunisian ministers expressed keen interest on raising bilateral relations on agriculture and commerce with Bangladesh, the release added.
