Prices of local spices rise further

Though the prices of imported essential commodities have decreased slightly, the prices of some products produced in the country keep rising.

The prices of flour, edible oil, sugar and imported onions dropped by Tk 3-5 per kg this week. But the prices of various products produced in the country, including onion, ginger, garlic and potato, increased further.

Apart from this, the prices of farm chickens, eggs and rice have not decreased rather those are being sold at previous high.

However, as the production of hilsa is increasing, the prices of almost all types of fish have declined this week. The prices of various fishes have decreased by Tk 100-150 per kg.

Traders said the supply of many domestic products has decreased, their prices have gone up. The prices of goods have decreased in the world market, putting impact on the local market.

According to the list of commodity retail prices of state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), prices of 13 commodities have changed last week. Prices of seven products including flour, soybean oil, imported onion, imported and domestic dry chili, cumin and turmeric have decreased. Besides, the prices of six products including palm oil, local onion, ginger, potato, coriander and turmeric have increased.

The price of local onion has increased by Tk 5 per kg to Tk 80-90 per kg. It was Tk 80-85 per kg two days ago. But the price of imported onion decreased by Tk 5 per kg. It is being sold at Tk 65-75 per kg, down from Tk 70-75 per kg.

Local ginger price increased by Tk 50 per kg within a week. Local ginger is being sold at Tk 420-450 per kg while imported ginger is being sold at Tk 120-250 per kg, according to the TCB data.

The price of potato increased further by Tk 3-6 per kg, it was being sold at Tk 42-45 per kg this week.

Loose flour price decreased by Tk 3 per kg. It is being sold at Tk 45-50 per kg. It was Tk 48-50 per kg one week ago.

The price of rice, lentil, sugar and some other essential items remain unchanged and are being sold at previous high.

The prices of farm chicken and chicken egg have not decreased so far, although the government took various steps in this regard.

Farm chicken egg is being sold at Tk 150-165 per dozen in the retail market and chicken was being sold at Tk 165-175 per kg in the last couple of the week.

The price of hilsa dropped Tk 150 per kg. It is being sold at Tk 500-1,400 per kg while it was Tk 650-1400 per kg. Ruhi and katla fish is being sold at Tk 350-450 per kg, down from Tk 450-550 per kg one week ago.
