Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry termed the proposed budget for fiscal year 2021-22 as business friendly and inclusive with a proper direction towards recovery from the fallout of Covid-19 pandemic.

The trade body however said that reaching the revenue target proposed in the budget would be very challenging.

DCCI president Rizawn Rahman made the remarks in an immediate reaction to the proposed budget through a virtual briefing on Thursday.

The budget is a big one with an aim to economic recovery and there is effort to balance between life and livelihood, the DCCI president said.

The proposed budget is by and large inclusive and pro-people, said Rizwan.

He thanked the government for considering the reduction of corporate taxes both for listed and non-listed companies and said it would help boost investment in the country.

He also urged the government to ensure incentives for all cottage micro small and medium enterprises.

The DCCI president also called on the government to widen tax net to increase revenue collection.

Mandatory e-TIN certificate for procuring national savings certificates, postal savings, launching cooperatives will increase revenue collection, Rizwan said.

Rizwan said the government has taken many initiatives to encourage local industries. “If we can strengthen local industries then more foreign investors will come to Bangladesh,” he added.
The DCCI president urged the government to increase budget allocation for employment generation, improving reskilling and up-skilling to counter the Covid-19 fallout.
