The Commerce Ministry on Thursday raised the prices of rawhides by Tk 2 to 5 per square foot ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

The price of cowhide treated with salt was set at Tk 40 to 45 per sqft in Dhaka and Tk 33 to 37 outside the capital.

Last year, the prices were Tk 35 to 40, and Tk 28 to 32 respectively.

The prices were fixed in a virtual meeting with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi in the chair.

In the meeting, the prices of goatskins were fixed at Tk 15 to 17 per sqft across the country while that of she-goat at Tk 12 to 14, which were Tk 13 to 15 and Tk 10 to 12 respectively last year.

At the meeting, Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh proposed the price of salted cowhide inside Dhaka at Tk 50 to 55 per sqft and outside Dhaka at Tk 40 to 45.

Besides, the price of goatskin was proposed at Tk 20 to 22 per sqft while that of she-goat at Tk 15 to 17.

However, the stakeholders raised objections to the proposal and requested for a review, meeting sources said.
