Rice to be imported reducing duty, if needed: Sadhan
There will be no food crisis in the country unless an artificial crisis is created — Rajib Dhar

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Monday said rice will be imported to make consumers comfortable after reducing duty, if necessary.

The minister said this at a view exchange meeting regarding boro paddy procurement and market monitoring, joining virtually from his office at Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka, according to a press release.

He said there will be no food crisis in the country unless an artificial crisis is created.

“We will do everything whatever is needed against the illegal hoarders.”

The minister, however, urged the traders not to think about excessive profit and to show their humanity to the consumers.

Sadhan also asked the authorities concerned to complete 70 per cent of boro procurement by June.
