The government will impose a ban on selling loose soybean oil, with effect from May 31, and a ban on loose palm oil sales from December 31.

"Both soybean oil and palm oil should only be sold in packets," Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said Wednesday.

The minister was speaking at a press briefing after a discussion on stockpiling, supply, import of essential commodities and to keep the price situation normal and stable on the occasion of the upcoming Ramadan.

"Unscrupulous traders will be strictly handled so that they don't get the chance to control the market," the minister added.
