Shop owners in Bangladesh on Thursday hoped that the government would allow them to resume their business from April 26.
President of the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association Helal Uddin told The Business Post that he discussed the matter with the cabinet secretary and the commerce secretary during a meeting on Thursday and placed the demand.
“We hope the government will give us permission to open the shops across the country from Sunday,” he said.
Shops across the country remained closed since mid-April when the government imposed a ‘strict’ lockdown amid a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases.
The government on Tuesday extended the lockdown for another week until April 28.
Shop owners repeatedly expressed concern over the decision as it hit them hard in the festival season.
