The government has proposed a tax exemption with turnover up to Tk 70 lakh to facilitate women entrepreneurs working in the SME sector for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed a proposed budget of Tk 603,681 crore for the FY22 in the parliament Thursday.
The government has accorded the tax exemption to businesses ran by women to facilitate women empowerment, said the minister at his third budget, which is the 50th fiscal plan of Bangladesh.
“Bangladesh is one of the 120 countries with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the economic empowerment of women is of paramount importance in achieving social and economic progress,” said Kamal in his budget speech.
Continual rise in the number of women entrepreneurs along with their male counterparts will ensure economic and social empowerment of women, said the minister.
“As a special incentive to the SME sector and women entrepreneurs working in the SME sector, I propose to keep up to Tk 70 lakh of business turnover outside the purview of taxation,” said Kamal.
“I hope both the women entrepreneurs and the SME sector will be benefitted from this tax exemption facility,” he added.
