Situated within the Remakri union in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban, Nafakhum is located approximately 79 km from Bandarban Sadar town. From Chattogram, board a bus to Bandarban at Baddarhat bus station, costing Tk 220 per person. Dhampara bus station also offers buses to Bandarban. Vehicle reservations from Chattogram to Bandarban range from Tk 2,500-3,500.
Bandarban to Thanchi
Reach Thanchi from Bandarban by bus or jeep. Hourly local buses to Thanchi depart from the Thanchi bus stand in Bandarban, charging Tk 200 per person, taking four-five hours. Opting for a jeep or Chander Gari reservation costs Tk 5,500-6,000 and takes around three to 3.5 hours. This journey goes past Milanchari, Chimbuk, and Nilgiris.
Thanchi to Remakri
Upon arrival in Thanchi, securing a certified guide is mandatory for visiting Nafakhum, regardless of group size. Guides charge Tk 1,500 for a one-day tour to Nafakhum, including the return to Thanchi the following day.
Obtain permission from Thanchi BGB camp or the police station, providing all necessary information. Note that travel from Thanchi to Remakri is prohibited after 3pm, so plan to arrive in Thanchi by 2pm or delay your journey to Remakri until the following morning.
Once permission is secured, hire an engine boat from Thanchi Ghat, costing Tk 4,000-5,000 for a round trip, taking approximately two to 2.5 hours. Alternatively, arrangements can be made for accommodation at local homes in Remakri Bazar, with a rental fee of Tk 150 per person.
The hotels in Thanchi Bazar also provide dining facilities. When staying with the locals, it’s advisable to let them know upfront about the meals. The guide can make the whole conversation. Typically, meals consisting of rice, fries, and eggs cost Tk 80, while adding chicken brings the total to Tk 120.
Nafakhum travel tips and necessary precautions
