Amazon terminates two employees who criticised working conditions

Amazon.com said that it terminated two employees for "repeatedly violating internal policies." The ones fired were known to be very critical about the company’s warehouse working conditions amid the pandemic.

The e-commerce giant announced about the termination on Tuesday.

Emily Cunningham and Maren Costa are the ones who were fired. They used to work as user experience designers in Seattle. They were fired a couple of weeks after the company fired another employee, Christian Smalls for complaining about the health and safety issues of the workers working through the pandemic.

After some of its workers were tested positive of COVID-19, the company has been facing a lot of public criticism. Workers of some of its branches also came out to protest.

Amazon said it supported, "every employees right to criticize their employers working conditions, but that does not come as a blanket immunity against any and all internal policies."

The largest online retailer of the world is trying to update the safety protocols for its workers so that they can keep their warehouses functional during the current global situation.

New York city mayor Bill De Blassio ordered an investigation last month to the Human Right Commission of the city to look into Christian Small's allegations last month. Moreover, five democratic lawmakers also wrote letter to the company to look into the same allegations.

The two employees who were sacked are identified as the members of Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, an organization of the employees that has been vocal to improve the working conditions for the warehouse staff.

This employee climate group is known to be very critical about the working conditions of Amazon.
