Trump threatens to adjourn US Congress

US President Donald Trump has threatened to adjourn the congress so that he could fill up the vacancies in his administration without senate approval. He expressed his disappointment to the lawmakers for not showing up to vote on his nominees for federal judgeship and other administrative positions.

The angry president also mentioned it as a scam saying, "It is a scam that they do.It is a scam and everybody knows it."

No president in the history of US has ever adjourned the congress  without both chambers of the congress agreeing on a date to adjourn.

However, the Senate and House Representatives were scheduled to  return in Washinton on the 4th of March after enjoying their Easter Break even before the coronavirus  crisis.

The members of the Senate and House of Representatives were absent from Washington since mid-march, after the government officials and health experts advised the citizens to stay at home.

Rather than officially adjourning both the houses of the congress have had their "pro-forma sessions", brief meetings which lasted less than a minute during congressional recesses.

The President, cannot however make "recess appointments" as long as those sessions are held.

The appointments of conservative federal judges is a part of his appeal to the Republican voters as he runs for re-election in November. His campaign immediately posted a tweet about the adjournment threat.

Trump stated that the appointment of the judges, would help in fighting the pandemi, but he did not mention how.
