Coronavirus: Global death toll stretches to 206,549

Global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 206,549 as of Monday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

There have been a total of 2,971,669 confirmed cases around the world after Covid-19, the highly contagious disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Of those infected, 1,908,928 are currently being treated with 57,603 being in serious or critical condition, says worldometer.

So far, 865,836 people have recovered.

In Bangladesh, five more people died of novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours as of Sunday, taking the toll to 145.

Besides, 418 more people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, raising the number of positive cases in the country to 5,416.
