Incentives for govt’s coronavirus combatants

The government has decided to pay three months' additional salaries and wages to the health workers, members of law enforcement agencies and workers of the local administrations combating to contain coronavirus across the country.   

This money will be disbursed as an incentive for those serving the (affected) people risking their own lives. The Ministry of Finance has finalised a draft of guidelines to this end. A gazette may be published in a day or two, said Finance Ministry officials.

The officials said the incentives are being offered to public servants and workers to keep them spirited and proactive in the fight against the deadly virus. As a part of the incentives, those people will receive 3 months' worth of their basic salaries and wages.

Earlier, the government declared to pay Tk 5 lakh to Tk 10 lakh in dividend---depending on their grades--- to any public officials who would get infected by the Covid-19.  A gazette notification said if any government employee dies of coronavirus, his or her nominee will get five times more of the above amount.

Physicians, nurses, health workers, members of law enforcers, local administration employees, members of the armed forces who are executing the current lockdown will be entitled to this additional three months' salaries and wage benefits, TBP has learnt.
