The allocation for the annual development programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year is likely to increase only 1.2 percent over this year's revised ADP outlay, as the government will avoid unnecessary projects due to coronavirus-triggered economic slowdown.

The ADP outlay for the 2020-21 fiscal year will be Tk2,05,145 crore – just 1.2 percent rise from the current financial year’s outlay of Tk2,02,721 crore, according to planning ministry data.

“Because of Coronavirus pandemic, the government had to keep in mind the limitation of the earnings of the National Board of Revenue,” Planning Secretary Nurul Amin told The Business Post.

“Despite the situation, the size of the next ADP is getting bigger than this year's revised ADP,” he said, adding that decision on the date of the National Economic Council meeting would be fixed after the government holiday expires on May 5.

It is learned from the planning commission sources that the projects in the health and agriculture sectors will be given more priority in the next ADP.

These two sectors are being given more importance in the list of new projects.

The planning ministry is now working on how much fund will be allocated for a project. The number of projects will be about 1,500.
