A Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) on market reopening reveals that 93 percent of people don’t want markets and business to open in this situation and 96 percent won’t visit even if the shopping malls shutter up.

CPD conducted the survey online. The question was “Is it necessary to open a shopping mall in the current situation? As many as 2264 people participated in the online survey. Of the respondents, 2,100 voted 'no' which is about 93 percent. And 164 people favoured the opening of shopping malls.

Executive Director of CPD Dr Fahmida Khatun disclosed the survey report at a virtual media briefing titled 'Covid-19-Current Context and Budget 2020-21' on Saturday.

“We see the general holiday, which has been declared since March 26, as a lockdown. That was a very good decision for health. This method has been adopted all over the world to avoid health risks. However, due to this, economic activities have come to a standstill,” she said adding that the opening of shopping malls on a limited scale has been announced and CPD wanted to test the public opinion on reopening of shopping malls.
