DSE seeks 6-month interest waiver on margin loans

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the main stock market of the country, has demanded waiver of interest on margin loans for 6 months due to the closure of stock trading during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Kazi Sanaul Haque, managing director of DSE has written a letter to Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal to instruct banks and merchant banks in this regard.

In the letter, 4 more demands were made.

Meanwhile, DSE stakeholders have been urged th authorities for providing loans at an interest rate of 4 percent equivalent to the last 6 months of operating expenses which will be paid in 24 equal instalments and will start from January 2021.

DSE has also demanded the Finance Minister to waive the one-year Beneficiary Owners (BO) Account Maintenance Fee.

In this regard, the DSE said, investors are counting losses as the stock market is closed at the moment, therefore, the Finance Minister has been called upon to direct the Central Depository of Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) to waive the BO fee for the next one year.
