Pakistan health officials have said so far 57 people have been confirmed dead in the plane crash with 99 onboard into a residential area near Karachi airport.

It is, however, unclear if the deceased were all onboard the flight or include area residents as well where the crash took place.

Two people are confirmed to have survived the crash, according to officials.

A third person, who had earlier been identified as a survivor from the plane, was later identified to be a resident of the area where the plane crashed.

The airline said the pilot had reported technical issues and witnesses said the aircraft attempted to land two or three times before hitting a mobile tower and crashing into houses in the Model Colony area, a few kilometres away from the airport.

Earlier on Friday (May 22) evening, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) passenger plane, with an estimated 99 people onboard, crashed in Karachi's Model Colony near Jinnah International Airport.
