Share trading on Dhaka and Chattogram stock exchanges will resume on June1st, even if general holidays for coronavirus continue, saidnewly appointed chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC)Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam.

BSEC will go for tougher action if any stakeholder is found involved in any wrongdoings or rumor, he warned.

Asked whether the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) is ready for the resumption, DSE Chairman Yunusur Rahman said “We have requested BSEC in a letter earlier to resume market activities during holidays. But, due to the changes in the commission, it could not hold any meeting in this regard.”

We have decided to keep market open in the lockdown period like other countries. Stock exchanges should be included in the list of organizations providing emergency services amid the ongoing lockdown, he added.

“The Prime Minister has given us a lifeline to continue share trade anytime by setting up a floor price. This is a revolutionary decision,” saidDSE former president and director Md Rakibur Rahman.
