Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed all scheduled banks to resume normal banking operations from May 31 in line with the government decision to end the stretched general holiday.

A notification in this regard has been issued by the Department of Off-Site Supervision of BB on Thursday (May 28).

Also, the directive has been sent to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks in the country.

Banks must maintain the safety and hygiene guidelines of the health department while in operation, the directive said.

In addition, banks have to submit a compliance report to the Department of Offsite Supervision Division of BB on a monthly basis within the first five working days of the next month.

However, in high and medium coronavirus-risk areas, banks are allowed to operate from 10 am to 2:30 pm but can stay open for internal work until 4 pm.

Additionally, with the permission of port or custom authorities, bank branches located in land, air and seaport areas will be able to decide to stay open for 24 hours, seven days a week.
