Twelve people lost their lives and 21 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Banke District on Monday (June 1) morning.

Superintendent and chief of Banke District Police Office (DPO) Bir Bahadur Oli said 11 people had lost their lives on the spot and the other one breathed last while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The van carrying people who had entered Nepal from Nepal-India border with Nepalgunj and Dang as their destinations rammed into a parked truck at 12:15 a.m. on Monday morning.

According to Oli, the van was carrying more people than its capacity allows and was speeding.
