BB, BSEC decide to meet monthly

Bangladesh Bank (BB) and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) have decided to hold consultative meetings every month to discuss further development of the capital market and the national economy.

The decision was taken at a top-level meeting between the two regulators on Monday (June 1).

The newly appointed BSEC chairman Prof Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, commissioners Khandaker Kamaluzzaman, Sheikh Samsuddin Ahmed, executive director Saifur Rahman and BB governor Fazle Kabir were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Prof Shibli told the media that BB may soon issue instructions so that small investors could get cash dividends from listed banks.

Since banks will not be able to pay cash dividends before September due to coronavirus outbreak, discounts may be offered to small investors, he added.

In the meeting, the two regulators discussed how they can further improve the stock markets and the strategies to deal with the fallout caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
