Coronavirus leads to nosedive in remittance inflow

According to Bangladesh Bank sources the coronavirus pandemic led Bangladesh's remittance inflow to a nosedive of 14pc in the month of May. Record amount of remittance was received in the country in the month of May last year. But the coronavirus pandemic has led to a fall in remittance inflow in May this year.  

Bangladesh received remittance amounting to 150 crore 30 lakh US dollars in May this year, down from 174 crore 81 lakh dollars in the same month of 2019, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bank on Monday.

The figure is 24 crore 50 lakh dollar or 14.2pc less than in the same period the previous year.

But at the same time inflow of remittance increased by 41 crore 66 lakh dollars compared to April this year.

1 thousand 636 crore dollar remittance was received in the country until May this year which is 131 crore 30 lakh dollar more than the same period last year.
